coast.
The school
Nonna Orsola cooking school, founded in 1974, has more than thirty years experience
and is renowned both in Italy. The courses include:
- Teaching techniques from the oldest to the most advanced cooking styles with recipes
from both classical and historical research, as well as more modern and creative
cuisine;
- Active participation (hands-on) of the "pupils" in the preparation of
the dishes;
- Practical courses in each culinary section;
- Courses provided in several languages;
- The opportunity for the participants, to collect the vegetables for the course,
from Villa Maria's organic garden;
- Full menu from starter, first and main courses, vegetables to desserts from Amalfitan,
Neapolitan and Italian cuisine; what is commonly called "Mediterranean cuisine";
- School run by a famous gastronomy historian, author of several books and of renowned
culinary recipes.
The location
Ravello, is a "terrace" overlooking
sea and hills of the Amalfi Coast. A unique town, where art and culture merge with
the natural beauty in a inimitable and extraordinary setting. The renowned Festival
of Ravello is held annually in Villa Rufolo and is dedicated to Richard Wagner who
found inspiration here for his last masterpiece, the Parsifal. Ravello has a permanent
seat of the European Center for Cultural Heritage, which each year organizes major
conferences. In 1996 UNESCO declared Ravello, and the whole the Amalfi Coast, a
World Heritage Site.
Activities beyond the kitchen
In addition to the cooking school there is Ravello and the Amalfi Coast with its
beauty and its culture. For those staying just a few days in Ravello, there is the
possibility to visit the beautiful gardens of Villa Rufolo, look out of the Rondinaia
balcony "of infinity", or take an excursion to Amalfi, Positano, Capri,
Sorrento, Pompeii etc.. etc.. What about the night, the magical atmosphere of a
Wagner concert in Villa or continuing "school" in an unique restaurant?
The climate
The climate of Ravello is indeed ideal, the winter is almost unknown here. Our summer
lasts from April to October with temperatures around 25° C. The heat of August is
tempered by the breeze of the Tyrrhenian Sea (western) and the coolness of the northern
Tramontana wind (from Tramonti in fact!).
An inviting opportunity to discover, enjoy and learn the secrets of good Italian
cooking. A tasty pathway between the old recipes that enhance the flavours of our
products and make unique our Mediterranean cuisine. Its position among the finest
in the world, makes this school the perfect match for rest, the study of the culinary
arts and entertainment in a charming and evocative atmosphere.
